Chanthaburi or alternatively known the Chanthaboon waterfront community received the title, the fruit capital of Thailand. The city is also famous for its Gems and Jewellery Centre, they say all gemstones used in Thailand pass through this city. Chanthaburi is located on the coastline, east from Bangkok, where the Chanthaburi river meets the sea. The city has a mix of traditional Thai-Chinese architecture. It is located 250 kilometers east from Bangkok and can be reached by bus in 4 hours. There are plenty of interesting places to see such as the one and only silver temple Sri Suphan or the beautiful Wat Pak Nam Khaem Nu. The only gothic style European architecture, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, is also located in Chanthaburi. Other interesting places to visit are the Kung Krabaen Bay Royal Development Study Center, devoted to the conservation of the mangrove Ecosystem, the old city with Portugese style buildings, or the Gems Markets with great history.
